When Is It Recommended Not To Choose Rental Equipment?

By Halisse Enmma

For most contractors/builders, acquiring the needed construction equipment is often the biggest challenge of any project especially considering today's economic difficulties; it's rare indeed to hear a client saying: "money is no object". This means they are always on the lookout for more practical ways to gather the equipment they need. This is why many rental equipment services today have become very much in demand since these establishments enable contractors to rent equipment for days, weeks or months at a time.

And there are a lot of rental companies these days you can work with so availability is not going to be much of a concern. However, there are others that are not really very enamored with the idea of renting equipment. If so, when is renting construction equipment not a practical solution?

One of the great things about renting construction equipment is you only need pay for the length of time the equipment will stay on your building site. This means you get to set a budget accordingly and still get all the equipment needed to get the project done. Moreover, rental companies will arrange for the equipment to be transported to and from your construction site so logistics is not something you have to worry about, either.

It's also possible to pay for your generator rental for days, weeks or months depending on your budget and needs. You need to understand however, that when it comes to renting equipment, it would cost you a fortune on rental fees if you were to rent let's say a dump truck or ten on a long term basis, and this is when renting becomes impractical. Meaning, you have to identify the equipment you need and most importantly, the length of time you are going to need the equipment for.

Never rent anything that you will use more than sixty percent of the time; this is the general rule of thumb on construction equipment rentals. Can you imagine how much it would cost for renting bulldozers for an entire year? Should you need construction equipment on a long term basis, it is best to look at their site to check out leasing or even lease to own options available.

It is also advisable to discuss budget limits with the dealers you plan doing business with so they can help you come up with rental solutions that fit your budget and needs. You can also carefully compare at least two dealers with each other to be certain you are getting the best deals they can offer.
