The Many Components That Are Put Into A Bird Flue Emergency Kit

By Eric Holm

In the world today there are many different viruses floating around and in order to be prepared a person should have a bird flue emergency kit on hand at all times. This is for precautionary reasons sort of a better safe than sorry type of scenario and will help protect an individual or family should the virus become an epidemic. At this time the virus is listed as a pandemic so it is not very likely that everyone will be affected and they have a better chance of being in an earthquake or some other natural disaster.

Just recently, a representative of the United Nations warned that the threat of bird flue is real and a pandemic might have a bigger impact on the country and the world than the present financial crisis. In the 14th century, the black plague claimed millions of lives all around the globe. This can still happen if the virus responsible for avian flue mutates into something that can enable man-to-man transmission.

The bird flue emergency kits you should keep must contain a particulate respirator because this is your first line of defense against contracting the disease. But studies have shown that not all masks or respirators can be effective in filtering the avian flue virus; thus, you need to make sure that your kit has at least an N95 particulate mask, which can filter at least 95% of airborne particulates. Other important components of an avian flue kit are antiseptic hand sanitizer, to stop the spread of microorganisms, and anti-microbial wipes, which are vital in keeping everything more sanitary and hygienic.

Additional items that should be added to kits include safety goggles which are required in the event there is a defogging procedure performed in an area. Hooded coveralls which completely cover the body and will protect a person from exposure, plastic sheeting that can be used to cordon of areas and rubber gloves which are used for prevention of disease spreading. Having a strong immune system is also critical to fighting off the effects of this virus and will help to prevent sickness.

For people who do not have access the items above, there are ready made kits available on the website. Having a properly stocked bird flue emergency kit is quite important and is something that should not be taken lightly. After the kits have been purchased or created it is a good idea to have a family meeting and go over each piece to make sure everyone knows how to use it.
