How A Murray UT Transmission Service Keeps Cars Running Smooth

By Lakisha Curtsinger

Most car transmissions today are very dependable. In fact, if properly cared for they can last way past 100,000 miles. However, even a durable transmission will last longer and perform better when you take proper care of it. Here are some tips from your Murray UT transmission repair service, to help keep you on the road for many years.

Many people make the mistake of not warming up their cars before taking off. This is not good for engines or transmissions. For example, until your car is warm, fluids cannot properly circulate to lubricate all the internal parts. Let the motor run for at least a minute or so, first.

Make sure to service transmissions as recommended by the manufacturer. As a general rule, you should have the fluid and filter changed every year. Never go longer than 30,000 miles before a fluid change. While changing the fluid, your technician will look for signs of problems which can help you avoid trouble down the road.

To make sure your transmission is full of fluid, check the level about once a month. A good time to do this is while checking your oil or tires. To check the fluid, the motor needs to be warm and still running. Take out the dipstick, clean it and re-insert. Next, remove it again to check the level, and replace it. Next, look to see if there any leaks underneath the car.

Heat is the biggest enemy of auto transmissions today. Towing can cause a great deal of heat buildup, so make sure you have an auxiliary cooler to keep things cool. This is essential for any vehicle you use for towing, even if it is only every now and then.

When you notice problems like slow shifting or unusual noise, it's best to take your car to the shop as soon as possible. When caught early many of these problems can easily be fixed. If you wait too long, you could be looking at a very expensive repair bill.
