Finding The Correct Antique Car Storage

By Eric Barnes

If you own a classic car you will need somewhere to keep it when you are not driving it. If you do not have enough garage space at home you need to search for a secure place where the car can be safely parked. When you are looking for secure antique car storage there are various specialist companies that can look after vehicles.

Many vintage vehicles are extremely valuable and they will need to be cared for and properly protected. The firms that provide storage facilities can offer various types of garage to suit your requirements and some homework should be done. You are able to select a suitably sized unit and many of the secure garages are climate controlled.

There are various ways to find a vehicle storage company and contact numbers for sites can be found in the phone book. Many firms will advertise in classic car magazines and on the internet. The web sites for the companies are a good place to do some research on your available options before you make any decisions.

When you have located a place to keep your vehicle you can contact them and arrange to have a look at the site. You can check out all of the garages and select the one that suits your needs and your budget. You will then have to fill in a few forms and pay the necessary fees before you take your car to the secure parking unit.

Before you put a car into a secure garage for a period of time there is some preparation work to be done. You should clean your vehicle inside and out and remove any items from the interior and the trunk. It is advisable to disconnect the battery and change the oil and filters and you should also top up any other fluid levels that are low.

When a car is stationary for long spells the tires will often suffer and flat spots can sometimes develop. This can be avoided by putting a little extra air into the tires while the car is parked up. You should also take off the rubber windshield wiper blades and you can then use an appropriate cover to protect your vehicles bodywork.

When your car is being stored you will need to visit the unit regularly to check on your vehicle. When you visit you can take the car out on the road for a short drive which will keep all of the engine components well lubricated. It is also advisable to get the vehicle inspected every so often by a trained technician to check for any problems.

Many of the vehicle storage sites are covered by security cameras and they are usually manned around the clock. You are able to visit during the company's normal working hours and out of hours visits are permitted by some companies. It is advisable to retain any payment receipts and other paperwork which may be needed at a later date for reference.
