The engine is a key element in any automobile. The mechanical functioning of the engine entails burning of fuel in the engine cylinders to generate power. This power is transmitted to the axles to enable the car to move. When the car engine breaks down, the owner will have a choice to buy a new engine, reused engine or repair the broken one. A damaged or worn out engine can be rebuilt. This will be dependent on the extent of distortion of the cars cylinder. Use a machine straight edge to measure warping on the cylinders and engine block. Where the warping may go beyond the manufacturer's specifications, replace the engine.

Where the engine top is worn out certain problems such as the camshaft rocker arms, valve Collete and guides will be noisy. In addition, valve covers and valve seals may start to leak and valve springs weaken. The engine will eventually lose compression and power. You can cut on cost by purchasing an engine kit rather than individual parts. The kit has bearings, pistons gear set among other miscellaneous parts.

You may have the damaged engine replaced with a new one that is reused or repair the original engine. Remember that replacing an old engine with a new engine is costly. Most people will have the engine repaired. Therefore, ensure the engine repair is carried out using the recommended parts to retain the efficiency of the engine. When you remove the old parts ensure you inspect them for unusual wear and damage. Any abnormality is a sign of a serious underlying problem that needs to be corrected before fixing the new parts.

The most usual cause of cracking is overheating of the engine, which is exacerbated by pouring cold water on the engine. This may cause thermal stress and engine cracking. However, with time they move on and may result in a major problem. In extreme cases, a cracked or damaged engine top can result in terminal damage to the entire engine.

Overheating of the engine is a universal cause of engine damage. The engine usually generates a lot of heat, which is cooled by various mechanisms in the vehicle some of which is the use of a coolant. However, when the coolant gets into the combustion chamber it causes warping and distortion of the gasket. It is costly to replace the gasket.

Use an aerosol before final assembly to remove any traces of dirt or liquid contamination. Most modern cylinder gaskets are installed when dry. Do not apply additional sealants. You may use a pair of guide pins to fix the cylinder into place to prevent damage to the gasket. Buy an engine kit that is complete with vital components like timing chain, gaskets, rings, oil pump and other parts.

Most common repairs are from overheating or leaking head gasket. The top the engine with a broken timing belt has to be disabled. It has to be cleaned and check all the valves and valve guides to ensure they are not deformed. With a broken timing belt the engine gasket is disassembled, the valves and valve guides are cleaned and checked. You are required to replace all the bent and broken parts and reassemble them once again.
