Sometimes junkyards, salvage car buyers and scrap yards are places you can negotiate with to pay you for your junk car. They buy old wrecked cars for cash and will pay you for them. They then in turn use these cars to scrap out, or sell the useful parts of it to repair shops or people working on repairing their own cars.

You get rid of your unwanted vehicle and the junkyard gets something they can use for the spare parts to sell to their customers. You must be careful however in choosing how you dispose of the vehicle and to whom. Make sure they are reputable dealers and will give you the fair market value for your old junk vehicle.

You can check reviews online about certain companies or call your state or local Better Business Bureau to see if they are in compliance with any state or local laws. Getting money for something that is just sitting around your yard is like finding buried treasure you didn't know you had. The extra money can be used for whatever you want to use it for.

If you can always take the vehicle to them, running or not. This will save you money and allow you to get the full value of the car you are selling because fees will not be taken out due to the business having to tow it themselves. If the vehicle is running you may get more for it than with a non operating vehicle.

Many junkyards and other dealers that buy old vehicles will advertise their services in the phone book or on fliers around town. Keep an eye out for these and call around to see if they are reputable and pay top dollar for old cars. There are also Lemon Laws in effect if you try to sell the car privately on your own to a private buyer.

If you are looking to sell the car privately, there are Lemon Laws in effect that protect the buyer and you must be upfront about anything that is wrong with the vehicle. Usually setting the price at $700 or below protects you the seller and gives the buyer incentive if they know what they are getting and don't have to pay too much for it. Many times they just want the vehicle for parts or to use it to restore it to its original condition.

For the most part junkyards and scrap yards are the ideal places to sell your old unwanted vehicles. It gets them off the road and out of your yard so that you can comply with the laws in your town or city regarding non operating vehicles on your property. You get cash for something that is no longer useful to you and the dealer gets the vehicle to scrap it or part it out to their customers who need them.
