The Protocol For San Antonio Car Window Replacement

By Eric Gray

Many people do not realize the importance of their car windows until one of them breaks. This element can be smashed in a traffic accident or by debris. Damaged auto glass exposes your vehicle to theft and bad weather among other things. Therefore, whether the auto glass damage occurs to your windshield or any other part of your, it is crucial that you seek San Antonio car window replacement.

Unlike vehicles of the past, modern automobiles are equipped with electric windows for easy control of air circulation and access, especially by the driver. The replacement procedure begins with the removal of all plastic moldings that is around the auto glass. Make sure you remove the clips that hold this glass in place correctly to avoid damaging them. Some of these clips are quite expensive and hard to find. Since these glasses are usually angled, you will have to determine the best angle to separate the window glass from the pinch-weld.

These screens are usually held in place using a strong but flexible material known as urethane. You must cut this material as to set the windshield free from the pinch-weld. One can cut the urethane from the outside or inside using an extended blade. Using power cutter instead of blades will make your task a lot simpler. However, this gadget tends to damage the pinch-weld.

The process of removing this massive screen from the automobile is a bit hectic. Attempting to do so alone will be in vain. Therefore, ensure that you have someone else to help with this part. With both front car doors open, reach out and push this glass away from the window frame. This will create space for you to hold the component and carry it to safety.

With the removal of this window glass, the first part of the replacement procedure would have been completed. The next part is to clean the pinch-weld and prepare it. One should use a brush and plain water to remove all dirt and other foreign materials from this area. If not removed, this dust diminishes adhesion between the urethane and the windscreen. If the polymer is too big, consider trimming it to size.

Before applying primer to the weld, ensure that you cover all areas that were not sanded or parts that expose the interior of your vehicle with tape and sheets of paper. Using primer will not only enhance the adhesive effect of urethane but also prevent rusting of the metallic parts of your vehicle. For increased efficiency, you will have to use at least three uniform layers of priming.

With the completion of priming, the pinch-weld will be ready to receive a new auto glass. Therefore, before fitting this glass in place, ensure that you have primed it too. The purpose of this is to enhance its adhesive properties so that it can accept the urethane with ease. Use a caulking gun to apply an ample amount of urethane.

Put the new windscreen on the pinch weld. Cautiously align the top, bottoms, and sides in place. While installing this component, take care not to touch the frit band. The dirt and oils on your hands could contaminate it and reduce adhesion. Then allow the urethane to set before you can drive the vehicle.
