Some different employment opportunities exist at car dealerships aside from the sales staff or financing department personnel. Personable and engaging staff members are needed to keep the business running smoothly. Receptionists greet customers when they enter and help assign them to different salespeople. They also answer phones, route calls to the different departments and schedule appointments for sales and service. A good candidate for this position will have administrative experience and an outgoing personality.

You must recruit people on a full-time basis based upon want, not need. The leadership of a dealer must have a written, and executed game plan for recruiting that utilizes online services, job fairs, colleges, tech schools, high schools, web sites, micro-sites, social media, newspaper, mass media and more.

A salesperson's goal is to explain the features and benefits of the vehicle and make the customer want to buy it. However, they have no power to negotiate prices. This is the sales manager's job. Once the customer and the sales manager have negotiated the final price, the salesperson will walk the customer through the rest of the purchasing process.

As an example, the selling process must be reviewed to make sure it is up to date and matches today's marketplace. Most sales processes being used today were created in the 50's and 60's and had changed only slightly. Meanwhile, for the customer, everything has changed. Information gathering, overall knowledge, shopping process, the volume of choices, expectations, value perceptions, lessening of brand loyalty are all things that have changed dramatically.

Further, social media accounts are used to engage clients in a conversation about their experience and to manage any complaints expressed online. Marketing and social media positions are well suited for job seekers who are organized, have excellent communication skills, an understanding of business awareness and the ability to be proactive.

Your new and used inventory must be monitored daily using analytic systems and technology that measures not only your inventory but others and market conditions. Many dealers have fought using any turn system even though simple mathematics proved you would be better off doing so. Well, the tide has turned again. Turn systems by themselves are now outdated and can even lower your dealers ROI without other factors involved.

Whatever your background, you may be able to find fulfilling employment at a car dealership. Do not allow existing ideas about the industry to stand in the way of your career. Make up your mind and find a job that you feel you can do instead of just speculating.
