What To Consider In Ship Cremains

By Melissa Sanders

Many people find it challenging and painful when they lose one of their own through death. It becomes challenging especially when it happens in a foreign country. This will mean that after the cremation, there will be a need to ship cremains to the respective country as a sign of respect. One needs to know the requirements at the checkpoint on how to handle the containers. The following are things to consider before the travel.

You are required to purchase an urn made of a material that will permit the x-ray scanner to identify the item in it. This will mean that nothing is allowed to pass through the checkpoint until the security has identified the content in the container. So, it is recommended that one should look for one which is made of wood, plastics, and metal but which will allow the x-ray to pass through.

You can carry the urn in your bag. It makes it safer since it will not be exposed to issues of getting lost or mishandling. When it is in your carry-on bag, you will take care of it all through the trip. Moreover, you ought to consult the officials in the airport whether people are allowed to carry such stuff in the plane. Reason being, there are some airlines which have such restrictions.

When in the checkpoint, you must not be in a hurry. It can lead to mishandling of your items which can also cause damaging the vessel or spill the ash. In this case, you should take your time as you undergo the process. To some extent, you will note that some security screening professionals will not allow you. So you will have a chance to rethink what to do next.

In other instances, the urn will need to be labeled. There are labels provided in the funeral homes which have a fright ready option. It will mean that you will have adhered to the transportation security administration regulations. Moreover, if there will be any issues with the item, the information issued on the label will help to solve it after contacting the respective officials.

One can go for an alternative urn which will be used temporarily during the shipment period. In this case, you will have a chance of protecting the cremains from being damaged. Sometimes, one can encounter an issue which will lead to damage to the beautiful metallic or glass container. Therefore, you can transfer the ash in the required one on arrival.

It is essential to ensure that the urn is appropriately closed. It means that it will be difficult for the content inside to spill. You should make sure it has been sealed entirely before heading to the airport. Sealing will not bring issues with the TSA during inspection since you will not be required to open it. The container will only be expected to allow the x-rays to pass through.

Before leaving the funeral home, you need to ask for official documentation which will prove that you are carrying cremains of someone special. It will help you in case of any problem in the checkpoint. Additionally, in your destinations, you might be required to give a document showing that you have been allowed to travel with the urn.
