Basic Information About Finding A Denver Windshield Chip Repair Facility

By Helga Stokes

When a stone hits the windshield of a vehicle, it will often leave a chip. It is important to get this type of damage repaired in a timely manner before it spreads across the glass leading to total replacement. When looking for the right Denver windshield chip repair service, automobile owners should first have a clear idea of this process and what their choices are.

The basic repair procedure consists of injecting a resin into the chipped area through a special tool that attaches directly onto the glass. This resin is then left to cure and is polished up to blend in with the windshield. The results can vary depending on how large the damage was, sometimes it isn't even noticeable, other times it may appear a bit different after the fix.

If the damage is anywhere from the size of a quarter to three inches in length, most facilities will be able to fix it. Many shops will recommend replacement if the crack is longer than this, however some are able to fix one as long as twelve inches. It may be necessary for the customer to call a few places and find out what what their limits are.

The location of the damage can also determine if it can be repaired or if a new glass is needed. If it is located on the edges of the glass, it can likely be fixed as long as it is done early enough. When damage has occurred in the center of the glass, some companies will not patch this as it can cause distortions which may impair the driver's view.

One of the most important factors in the success of a repair is the timing. Waiting too long will certainly increase the likelihood of the damage spreading, and it can also mean that dirt may get into the the damaged spot, making it harder to fix well. When the damage has been caused by a bigger object, in most cases a replacement will be required.

Where price is concerned, the repair of chips and minor cracks are basically a going rate that varies little from one place to another. Many companies will charge less than half the price paid for any additional damage of comparable size. Windshield replacement fees may vary considerably more amongst providers, this is usually because of the quality of the glass used. OEM (original equipment manufacturer) glass generally costs more than those which are non-OEM, although it too must meet some specific standards.

There are several facilities that do this kind of work, which customers can choose from, windshield repair companies, car dealers, mobile glass repair services, and automotive glass shops. A dealer will nearly always use OEM products whereas other facilities may not, but not necessarily. It is recommended that any sealers and adhesives used be OEM-recommended to ensure quality workmanship.

If it happens that a driver needs a Denver windshield chip repair company, he or she may discover that the cost of this procedure will be covered by their automobile insurance policy. Many insurers pay for this type of service to promote fixing over the more costly option of full glass replacement.
