A Hot Shot Trucking Firm Will Get It There Fast

By Aimee Schwartz

When shipping manufactured goods to your client, you often use a trucking company. They usually have requirements about sizes and weights and you are good with that. Because of those restrictions, they can offer fair prices when you have a full load. The problem occurs when you have a less than full load. This happens occasionally and, for those times, you may need to call a hot shot trucking firm.

These trucking companies have the same mission as the larger ones as they work to get your stuff from your dock to your clients quickly. They have the ability, however, of taking smaller loads and, because of that, charge a premium for the service. They specialize in getting things from one door to the other, hopefully, before it is noticed.

Getting a new prototype of the latest product to a new client might be another way to utilize this type of service. You can get a good first impression from the customer if they know you have this kind of customer service. The added reputation points are usually worth the premium charge for this delivery. These firms have more flexibility in scheduling and can often turn an order around within the same day.

Many times, the price can be adjusted based on a number of things. One of these might be the availability of a return trip load back into your area. This will help pay for both trips and can be a savings for them they can pass along. This assists them as much as you because they have to pay their driver to return even if they are not hauling anything. A good relationship with them will help ensure this happening.

They still have to follow all of the rules of the road, however, one of the good things about it is that, because they have a smaller load, they can also run with a smaller rig. They will often pick up your part with a passenger pickup truck and head out at the same time. This saves a lot of overhead and they can reap the benefits and still give you a fairly good deal.

Many other companies, especially those companies with a large presence, such as construction or oil drill management firms, will have need of a truck and driver on hand. They will hire a few of these drivers and trucks to run errands. These are often parts runs or for lunch. Having a couple of these crews on hand will help handle the small stuff while the trades people are busy doing the grunt work.

The main purpose for these services is to take care of something that you may have messed up on. Not having a particular piece on the shipment should not cost you the sale. Being able to call one of these firms and getting it to the client, expeditiously, will often save that sale and make a good name for you in the process.

Several of the things that the larger trucks have to deal with are weight stations and many other traffic induced situations. The smaller trucks, with your loads on them can be faster though these, eliminating one and skirting another. Your delivery, while still getting there safe, does get there faster.
