In this year this car type became the second most expensive Chevy due to separation of its own mode. The larger Chevrolets did not receive greater changes with the updated 1963 shell body making it look rounded more and a much flatter grille with redesigned rear panel. During 1964 the Chevrolet had produced over 890000 such cars, with approximation of 180000having SS badges. In the year 1964 the Chevrolet sold at least 890000 impalas and an approximation of about 18000 cars having SS badges. This actually was an indication of how this model of Chevrolet had gained fame as compared to the cheaper Bel air model of vehicles.

The automobile was then named after the southern African antelope. This automobile would later in 1959 become separate model by simply adding or coming up with two and also four door of the same model.

Small upgrades basically were made in this car version which included an electric clock, basic emergency brakes light, a special steering wheel, a techno meter which was dash mounted and seats bucket shaped with floor console. The base generally came with six body styles which includes the sedan, hardtop sport sedan, a convertible, two wagons and a hardtop sport coupe. The basically was both a hardtop sport coupe and a convertible. The supersport SS model was a sporty model just as the name implies.

This sporty model featured grained leather upholstery which with it had individual back seat and a locking chamber inside a center console.
