Thinking Of Having A Pre Owned Vehicle Inspection

By Steven Young

Most people will think that buying a used car is as simple as seeing a model that they like, paying the asking price and driving away. There is little more to it than that and some careful thought is needed when buying. If you are thinking of buying you may need to look for a pre owned vehicle inspection and there are a few places to find a suitable inspector.

When a vehicle has been used on the roads before, it will probably have suffered a failure, and may have been involved in an accident. The majority of car traders will check all of their models before advertising them for sale and fix any problems that arise. When you are spending a substantial amount of cash on a car it is well worth having it independently examined before completing the deal.

If you need to find an examiner to check out a car there are a couple of places to search. A lot of the firms in Dallas, TX who carry out checks will advertise in local newspapers and phone books. Some companies choose to list their services on the internet and this is a good starting point. Enthusiasts clubs and breakdown companies may also be able to help with inspections.

After you have found a potential purchase you will need to contact an inspection company and arrange a day and time for them to come and examine the vehicle. They will accompany you to the showroom and carry out a very detailed inspection for mechanical and bodywork defects and complete a check list. The inspector will then take the car out for a short drive to check that it runs as it should and that brakes, suspension and steering are all good.

The prices charged by the company for checking cars will depend on a few things such as how far they have to travel and how many are to be examined. If there are 2 or 3 cars to be looked at then this will be a full days work and maybe costly. It is preferable to allow the inspector to get on with their work and you can discuss their reports when they have completed the checks.

If they spot any problems with the car, these will be highlighted on the check list, which you will have a copy of. You can then speak to the dealer and either negotiate a reduction in price or get them to fix the problems. If they dispute the findings of any inspections it is better to walk away and find another similar vehicle.

If you are buying a vehicle privately it is also a good idea to have it checked before you buy. In the past many cars have been sold from residential properties and it has been the case that it is not their house. When the buyers have returned the car the seller is nowhere to be seen and so a full check will avoid this problem.

When you have an examiner check your car it does not guarantee against future failures. The report is only to say that the car is fit to drive at the time of the inspection and that has not been reported as stolen. If any problems arise after the checks you will need to speak to the seller and resolve them.
