Renting Heavy Construction Equipment: The Basics

By Halisse Enmma

A lot of people are opting to work on their home's renovation or construction nowadays out of the need to save money and more often than not, this would involve renting or leasing heavy construction equipment. In most cases it is never a good idea to purchase heavy construction equipment such as a scissor lift, especially if you are about to work on a short-term project as this can be quite expensive.

Bigger projects however, usually require construction equipment that people do not have lying around in their tool shed, or can't afford to buy in which case rental options come up, and if you're one of these budget-conscious individuals finding themselves in need of construction equipment, you may want to check out what other options are available to you. To start, you need to identify exactly what construction equipment you need to rent. Ask yourself: What is the project? Are you going to add rooms to your house? What would I need to get this done? To get this part of the process done, you have to take a look at the different stages of the construction project so you would easily identify construction equipment that would be needed to complete each stage.

Sit down and write an outline of the construction project from the beginning to end and taking note of everything you need on every stage of the project. Even if you already own the equipment or tools, list them down before you start looking for construction equipment or even pickup truck rental services. This is the responsibility of the rental company.

Once you're done taking notes, check off items that you need to rent. If you find something wrong in the equipment you rented, immediately get in touch with the rental company. They would send in mechanics or in some cases even send a replacement unit so you can continue with your project and minimize delays.

The internet is a great place to do your search since most equipment rental firms have their own websites today, making it easy to compare prices and services. You need to be certain that you have sufficient storage for the construction equipment so they won't get damaged; any damage during use should be reported immediately to the rental company.

The reason you have to take good care of the equipment is quite obvious: you would be charged hefty fees if you return the equipment damaged in any way and you can check out such information when you visit websites such as Hertz Equip; this is the reason you have to set up sufficient storage facilities for the equipment you no longer would use or at the very least have the rental company pick the equipment up as soon as the rental terms are up.
