Private Seller, Auction Or Dealer? Finding The Best Detroit Used Cars

By Ruppert Lerante

Buying a new vehicle in Detroit, Michigan, isn't always easy. Working out your budget is a first important step. Once you know how much you can spend, you need to think about the type of car you like and even the make and model. Finally, you need to decide where you will go to buy this car. You have three main options available when looking for Detroit used cars.

Your options are private seller, auction and dealer. Which one is the better option? Looking first at the private seller, this is where people expect to get the cheapest car. In reality, however, this isn't often the case. Additionally, there are many potential dangers. It is all too easy to buy a car that is stolen, Lemon or still has finance on it. You can protect yourself to some degree by doing vehicle history and VIN checks, but this can be costly and takes time. Finally, you have absolutely no warranty on your vehicle.

Would it therefore be better to go to auction? Auctions are exciting and there is a small chance of really getting a bargain. It is equally possible that you end up spending way more than you have intended, simply because you get caught in the excitement.

It must also be acknowledged that you don't have time to really check out a car before deciding to bid on it, and you won't be the first to see this as a problem. Hence, although auctioneers will generally tell you if the vehicle has problems and what its history is, you will simply have to take their word for it. The last issue is that it is rare for a really good car to be put up for auction.

This means the dealer option is all that's left. It is not uncommon for people to see this as a really expensive option. However, this isn't actually the case if you find a really good dealer. If you go to a dealer you will be guaranteed that the price is on or below that listed in the Kelley Blue Book, and a link is provided to make sure you can check this as well.

Additionally, when you buy through a dealer, the vehicle will have been fully checked out, and it will be under warranty. Also, you can ask a dealer to sort out finance for you as well. It is clear, therefore, why all experts recommend people go to dealers if they want to purchase a new vehicles.
