Locating And Purchasing Wire Wheels For Cars

By Paul Bell

One of the least costly ways to improve the appearance of a vehicle is to fit aftermarket rims. Many cars are supplied with steel or alloy wheels when they are new and fitting a set of new rims can dramatically improve its looks. If you are trying to find and buy wire wheels for cars there are many companies to choose from and a little research needs to be done before buying.

A set of wire rims can be located that will fit most models of car that are being driven on the road. There are many styles to choose form and various finishes, sizes and colors are available at various prices to suit all pockets. They can be found in auto factors in most areas as well as the many online suppliers that are trading.

If new rims are out of your price range you may choose to buy a second hand set. You can find them in reasonable condition for around 200 bucks and many junk yards, recycling centers and auto shops will offer them for sale. Some of them may need a little work doing to restore them to a good condition and there are firms that can polish or powder coat them.

If you want something extra special the bespoke wheels can also be ordered and purchased for your vehicle. These handmade custom rims will start from around 2000 bucks for four and they will increase in price according to style, finish and the number of spokes. The fixings can also be custom made and decorated with a name, picture or logo that you have selected.

If you decide to upgrade the rims on your car you should consult a mechanic and check a couple of things first. If the diameter of new wheels purchased, is larger than the ones currently fitted, you may have to make some major modifications to allow them to turn properly. Other modifications to the brakes and springs may also be required and this is sometimes expensive.

When you fit new rims you will need to check that the appropriate tools are purchased and kept in the trunk. The original tools that were supplied with your car will not fit the new rims as most will be secured with a spinner or single nut. Your supplier will be able to provide the tools you need or they can be sourced separately.

The maintenance of wire rims is another thing you will need to think about and it is extremely important to look after them properly. It may take hours to clean the spokes and it is often a tricky task. Many owners will use old shoelaces or tear up rags to get to hard to reach areas. From time to time you will have to remove the rims so that they can be cleaned behind to prevent corrosion.

Before fitting new rims it is advisable to speak to a qualified technician and get them to do the work. You should also be aware that buying from a web based supplier may be cheaper but you may get better after sales care from a local auto store. You should keep the original steel or alloy rims that were on your car and refit them if you sell it.
