Installing a New Tuner for Your Truck

By Jone Carducci

A diesel truck is expected to have all the basic features, especially if it is brand new. If you have just bought one, then there is absolutely no reason why you should worry about how it is going to perform. However, you must be aware also that there is always a room for improvement even with this. You could acquire aftermarket parts that you could use to upgrade your diesel truck. By doing so, you would be able to enhance further the performance not just of the engine but the entire truck.

A tuner is definitely one aftermarket part that you would try to acquire first. This is actually quite popular among the professional truckers. This is a device that is made of electronic chips. It may seem strange because a diesel engine is mechanical while a tuner is electronic in essence. A tuner would make you improve the performance of the engine even as it guarantees that the fuel consumption remains low. This can make you manipulate the speed limitations of the truck. Among the top brands of tuners are Edge Performance Chips and H&S Tuners.

Oftentimes, the programmer is called a tuner by many truckers precisely because of what it could do to the diesel engine. It has complete control over two particular functions of the diesel engine. These are controlling the consumption of fuel and increasing the turbo boost when necessary. Because of these, it is clear that the tuner is a very important aftermarket part. You should indeed get this and have it installed in your truck.

Needless to say, the advantages that you would get with a tuner should convince you to buy one. Once you are out to shop though, you should never by one that does not match the engine type of your truck. For example, if your truck is a Ford, then it is only right that you have a PowerStroke engine. A Dodge truck would have a Cummins engine. If your truck is a GM then it is expected that the engine should be a Duramax.

With a tuner already at your disposal, the next thing that you would have to deal with is the installation and this is one thing that you could do. There is nothing wrong about doing the task yourself because installation is quite easy. It may only take a few minutes after all. If you are very busy though, then it is prudent to hire a mechanic to do the job. Of course, you would have to prepare an extra amount for the services that you are getting.

Another thing that you may have to know about tuners is its price. The price range for such aftermarket product is from about $600 to $2,000. The price actually would depend on the brand and the model of the tuner. You may be surprised to find out that some tuner purchases may provide you the opportunity to buy other accessories, such as mounting pods and pod adaptors.
